Legal Advice to Employees in all areas of workplace legal matters.

  • Wrongful Dismissal and Severance Review

Calgary wrongful dismissal lawyers provide wrongful dismissal and severance packages reviews.
  • Legal Advice to Employees

Calgary employment lawyers specialized in providing legal advice and representation to employees in all areas of workplace related legal matters.
  • Constructive Dismissal

Your employer may have already made or may be proposing unilateral changes to the terms of your employment agreement, without your consent, regarding compensation (i.e. salary, hourly wage, commissions, bonuses), benefits or your job title and/or duties and responsibilities. Or you may be experiencing harassment, bullying, intimidation or discrimination at the hands of your boss, a colleague, vendor or service provider while your employer or Human Resources Department does nothing to stop it.
  • Human Rights, Harassment and Discrimination Matters

Human Rights, Harassment, Bullying, Intimidation and DiscriminationIt’s both surprising and concerning to note that, even in 2018, employers still engage in prohibited forms of human rights violations and discrimination in the workplace – and more often than you think. We know all too well how damaging this can become to your well-being and family life. The only difference as between prohibited human rights violations and discrimination at work in the heyday of the 1960s and 2018 is that, today, this conduct is often much more subtle, discreet and indirect – but make no mistake about it, it is still just as unlawful. Employers often have sophisticated in-house or outside legal counsel and other professionals on staff to assist them in making otherwise direct or blatant discrimination appear benign and due to some other valid reason.
  • Drafting, Reviewing and Advising on Employment Agreements, Restrictive Covenants and Non-Disclosure Agreements

There is really nothing we hate more than seeing a long-term employee (that is, employees with 10+ years of service) laid off with nothing more provided to them from their employer than eight weeks pay-in-lieu of notice. Yes, this is the Alberta statutory minimum amount of notice or pay-in-lieu (i.e. severance) for an employee with 10 or more years of service, which many employers are now validly limiting their employees to. Why do we hate this so much? That’s simple – it’s easily preventable and can represent a fraction of what you would otherwise receive by way of severance or notice if this clause was not part of your employment agreement.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Matters

You have the right to work in a safe environment – in fact, it should be demanded. If your employer is cutting corners and taking unreasonable risks, exposing you to harm and risk of injury, or if you have already become injured because of this, we’ll see to it that this recklessness stops immediately – and permanently. If necessary, we’ll make sure you receive the compensation and benefits you’re entitled to. We’re in your corner and we aggressively prosecute these claims where settlement is not possible.

I immediately established a level of trust with Erika from YYC Employment Law Group. I quickly realized that Erika is an effective communicator with excellent knowledge and a high degree of professionalism, this allowed me to have full confidence in her handling of my case. She provided me fantastic, timely support throughout the process and understood the stresses and challenges of my situation. Her suggestions were always in my best interests and she was a pleasure to deal with. I would definitely recommend Erika as she made this difficult time more bearable. Thank you Erika & YYC Employment Law Group!

I contacted a few law firms at first and Stephen was the first to reach out to me during a long weekend, and I am ever grateful he did. Stephen was able to meet with me in person for a consultation within days. My case was handled by Erika and I could not have asked for better representation. Erika exemplified professionalism and legal prowess from the very beginning. She always took the time to keep me up to date and walked me through everything at every step along the way; a phone call with Erika never felt rushed. This is what I appreciated most from working with Erika. The firm's ethos is what sets them apart in the field and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Originally I was unsure of how I wanted to handle my legal matter. Once I finally made the decision to seek legal advice, I did some research comparing other Law firms and YYC Employment Law Group was personally and financially the best Law firm to fit my needs. I sent an inquiry through the website, and within a few hours I received a message directly from Stephen himself. We were able to book an appointment within the week. However, unfortunately Stephen was called away for a few weeks for a work related matter. That did not deter my interest in having a consultation. When I met with Stephen just a few days ago, he calmed my nerves by getting to know me and connecting with me on a personal level and was able to jump right into my case. He told me everything I needed to know, and what the potential outcomes would be. He was patient, kind, respectful, and professional. I feel most confident with Stephen handling my case from here on out, and I truly believe this "Your workplace iss...
